About my garden

Off on a tangent on Monday

This is not quite in a vase but desperate times call for clever ideas. I saw a tiny wreath on Instagram so I wanted to have a go. Visit Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for In a Vase on Monday.
Here it is hanging outside:

And in the kitchen:

I was quite pleased with mine until I looked back at the Instagram picture. Mine looks clumsy compared to this exquisite creation but I will now be on the lookout for little
things to save for this kind of project.
This was my first attempt, but not my last, and a fun thing to do on a winter afternoon.
I will let you see the inspiration as long as you promise to like mine too. It's here
MrC laughed and said he thought a 7 year old had made it for me, which I thought was rude.

I used winter flowering jasmine for the main wreath plus one red willow twig.
Nicandra skeleton seed heads, dead Lawson Cypress, some other kind of conifer, moss, rose hips and Leycesteria flowers.
Most things are wound together and held in place by the Jasmine and will power but I did add a small amount of florist wire.

If you would like some philosophy to go with it's Out with the Old at the top and In with the New at the bottom.

Happy New Gardening Year everyone and may the year be everything you'd wish for.
Thanks for visiting.

  2. I wrote my comment, then decided to go up and look at the Instagram link, and lost my original words. (Never been on Instagram before!) The original is delightful, a work of art. Yours is of the moment: for the New Year, showing what you had in the garden in 2017, and what is flourishing at the opening of 2018, and the first to link in with Cathy's IAVOM. I particularly admire your choice of title: "On a Tangent" since you placed your old and new material opposite each other on the circle. I read the definition of Tangent as a straight line or plane that touches a curve or curved surface at a point. Gardener, arranger and philosopher...so pleased we met last year through IAVOM, and looking forward to outings together this year.

    1. No I don't use Instagram, I think it may be another black hole to fall into and eat up all my time. I just came across this picture. I have had time to myself without the crowding of daily life, and also the turn of the year makes me reflective.
I'm sure there are plenty of gardens we can visit and share the joy of this year.

  3. The out with the old/in with the new idea is delightful and your wreath illustrates it beautifully. Happy new year Alison!

  4. Oh I too think it is a great tribute to the time of year and Mr C was most rude with his comments! And yes, very philosophical title and execition ;) By the way, I am so happy to see a friendship blossoming between you and Noelle and originating through IAVOM

    1. He was rude, which is unusual as, when my arrangements are pointed out to him, he is complimentary. I'll have to forgive him and he did make me laugh but I still like what I made.
I'm so glad I suggested meeting to Noelle, we are only 20 min apart, after all. It's great to have a friend who is happy to go round the garden in minute detail, with great plant knowledge as well.

  6. I think you did a splendid job with your wreath. MrC should try his own hand at it before he offers a critique. The Nicandra seedhead skeletons are an inspired touch.

Best wishes for happy new year filled with warm, sunny days, Alison!
