Just Dahlias In a Vase on Monday

I had a lovely day out yesterday to the Bishop's Palace in Wells where there was a Rare Plants Fair.
Noelle and I visited and spent a happy admiring all the plants. I wonder how much one of everything would have cost? There weren't many things I wouldn't have wanted. ( I was quite restrained). Then it was off to Noelle's for coffee and delicious cake and I came away with more plants. I have lots of plans for planting now but had no time so far. Today it's very wet but looks as though it may dry up later.

Here are some of the wondrous dahlias growing in my patch this year.

Pinks first. L-R Miracle Princess, Jowey Mirella, Karma Lagoon, Rip City, NOT Creme de Cassis as it is supposed to be.

Miracle Princess ( I think)

 Any ideas?

Karma Lagoon.
 Then oranges:
L-R Wine Eyed Jill, David Howard, Ginger Snap, Cornel Brons, DH again and Apricot Star. Plus 2 Zinnia
 Wine Eyed Jill
Ginger Snap

I hope I have the names right for the pinks. Some are quite similar and the tags are buried in the wet plants.

  1. What fantastic colours Alison! They really are like jewels - fabulous! I admire all the bloggers on Monday who know the Latin names and varieties of all their flowers. I don't know any! My 'vase' this week is a one dimensional, but the colours smack of Autumn. Yes, it's come round already! Amanda

    1. The colours are amazing and so special as we turn towards the end of the season. I just have a knack for remembering the latin names. Except a few which I have a mental block with. Yes, it is starting to feel like autumn, perhaps more so for you. We are getting chilly evenings and mornings but often warm days. Not today though, it didn't stop raining but I managed to do a few jobs outside.

  2. Gorgeous, gorgeous colours, Alison. I wish I had more success with dahlias because I do love their jewel colours. Not too keen on the earwigs though!

    1. No I do find earwigs crawling around inside quite often and I know where they've come from!

  3. What an abundance of dahlias. Alison - have you used a lot of them over the summer? Glad you had a good time with Noelle - plant fairs are almost always so inspiring

    1. I am inspired also be seeing Noelle's garden which is transformed since I first went there. I've made a small start but there is plenty of time now to get it all done.

  4. I love both your mixes, Alison. Most of these varieties are unknown to me. I should think more in terms of what might mix well with what when I choose the varieties to grow next year. I'm enamored with 'Ginger Snap'.

    1. I'm afraid I just choose by what I like! I tried to get a colour range but some of the flowers are too large to use easily. I love Ginger Snap. It was a substitution by Peter Nyssen, in fact I think it was a freebie. It's not too large and gorgeous colours.

  5. Nearly a week later and it is too hot to sit in the sun, and the plants are wilting!!!! Your dahlias are fantastic....
