It's Snowdrop time In a Vase on Monday

It's time!
I'm sure we've turned a corner here. Buds are forming, bulbs are shooting, the days are getting longer - we have a long way to go but I can see there might be an end to this winter.
For now we have the wonderful snowdrop season. One of the most amazing things about them is how they just appear. I looked for them a few weeks ago and there was nothing and then suddenly they are in bloom.

These double Snowdrops are growing in a hedge and are only accessible by crawling through it but it's so worth doing. I moved a few last year and I plan to move a few more this year.

I know I'm repeating myself but Mother Nature does that too so I'm in the best company. Last year I showed them off on this mirror and here they are again shown with Vinca minor leaves.

That is how I found a slug clinging to one.

Finally here is a pot of Iris reticulata growing, as MrC rightly put it, in spite of me. I never managed to re-pot them or even weeded them but here they are flowering their socks off in a rich purpley blue.

If you have something to put In a vase and show off visit Cathy at Rambling in the Garden to join in the fun.

  1. What a wonderful idea of putting the Snowdrops on a mirror to see their blooms. They are sweet. Those sweet little irises shout spring time. They look happy in that pot. Happy IAVOM.

    1. An old friend gave me the tip years ago and I have always remembered it. The irises are very happy. Now should I neglect them again next year or re-pot them?

  2. The mirror is the perfect way to show off the gorgeous interior of the snowdrops; definitely no problem in a repeat! I'm envious of your success with getting Iris reticulata to flower for a second year. I find they decrease very rapidly, I'll have to order more for next year as I do love them.

    1. Thank you. The key is obviously neglect here! They are very cheering so I hope you get them to grow for you.

  3. Like Lisa, I want to say how lovely to show the snowdrops on a mirror....they are such a complex bloom, its a great way of looking into their centres without having to contort oneself. The Blue of the iris is dazzling.

  5. Yes, they look so lovely reflected in the mirros and the double ones are so pretty, aren't they? My native doubles are always in bloom earlier than teh sigle - are yours?

    1. I think they are further out but the nirvalis are out now too. The ones I relocated last year have been the slowest.

    1. Oh good, they certainly look good en masse. Our local nursery sells bunches in the green so perhaps you can find some near you.

  8. Sweet double snowdrops! I love the way the mirror allows viewers to appreciate the delicate faces without having to lift the shy little head of the snowdrops!

    1. A borrowed idea but thank you. It's a shame you can't grow them, they are a delight.

  10. That is an excellent way to show them off with the mirror to see the flowers properly. I might try that out with hellebores, as they also tend to hang their heads! How nice for you to have those lovely large doubles in your hedge too. :)

    1. Good idea, I'm sure it would work for Hellebores - I'll have to try that.
