It's very hard to find anything pretty to go in a vase just now. It's probably the most challenging time of the year and makes me wish I'd dried some things!
Following Cathy's lead I made a tiny vase for In a Vase on Monday.
It's not a great picture. In the centre is a Pieris flower. There are a few Heuchera leaves, Pittosporum and Abelia twigs.
Just right for a bedside table.
We had new neighbours for a few weeks but sadly they've eaten the grass and moved on.
Shame, I miss them now.
We've had lots of bright, chilly days so I've been able to get on with weeding and winter jobs.
We've also moved our inherited greenhouse from a fairly shady spot to here.
It'll probably be too hot now!
There are a satisfying number of compost heaps behind, mostly full. Moving the greenhouse has meant we can hide a huge pile of stuff where it was, and make good use of a sunny area by a fence for planting dahlias and climbers.
We love a project!
I love your vase! Such soft and subtle colours! And I like the look of your recent neighbours. It's always easy to just think that all sheep look the same, but in fact I think each face is different, and of course so are their personalities. I rather like sheep! My vase this week was an odd selection of pretty things from the garden. Slowly things are changing and hopefully by next week there may be more! ReplyDeleteThank you. I did like going over to look at them and it was nice when they stopped running away! As the farmer cuts the grass for feed I doubt they'll be back. Things are changing and there is lots to look forward to but I'm not getting ahead of myself.
DeleteNice little posy to ponder on as you fall asleep....went past to a session of geology this morning, and saw you in the garden. By the time I returned home, I was too cold of thinking of going outside again! Feeling nice and warm in all my woolens, sheep are to be enjoyed on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have been out again today and am slowly getting to where I want to be. Curling up on the sofa with a book, cats and hot chocolate is extra sweet.
DeleteIt may be difficult to find vase contents at this time of year but you've risen to the challenge and created a beautiful little vase. I'm impressed that you've moved the greenhouse. That must have been quite a job. So, you're saying your previous neighbors weren't baaaaad at all?
ReplyDeleteAh, thank you. I should have said that Mr C did most of the hard graft. I dug out and potted up all the Chrysanthemums which were in it. Helped move it and helped dig the base for the blocks. He did all the hard bit of taking out the glass and putting it all back. What a star!
DeleteYes, soft and subtle sums it up. We sometimes hear sheep from our garden and sometimes cows, although there are two houses and a tiny church inbetween. Your greenhouse will certainly appreciate a sunnier spot. I keep meaning to investigate shading for mine because there are times when it could do with soemthing
ReplyDeleteWe did throw some shade netting over it last year. It was an exceptional year, after all. It really was just thrown over but I'm sure there are better ways.
DeleteNice how the Pieris and Heuchera tones work so well together. The sheep are wonderful. Do they visit often?
ReplyDeleteThey have never been before but I hope they come again.
DeleteAfter seeing what you, Cathy and Susie put together, I think I should have followed my original inclination and gone tiny with this week's arrangement myself. I love the mix of tones in your vase. The newly relocated greenhouse looks like a great way to start the new year too and your temporary neighbors look sweet.
ReplyDeleteI like your large vase and it adds some much needed colour.
DeleteA lovely subtle posy, just a tiny vase can be so satisfying. Your greenhouse looks all ready for action. What will you be planting in it?
ReplyDeleteI've moved some seedlings in already. They will fill it for spring. Then cucumbers in the summer and Chrysanthemums for autumn!
DeleteOh it may be a little vase but it's still singing colour and warmth Alison. No sheep in our neighbourhood although we can sometimes hear and see them when we are staying in our caravan. I'm trying to guess the size of your greenhouse and not go green with envy :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks huge now it's empty. I think it's about 6 x 8 ft. I know I'm lucky.
