Yellows In a Vase on Monday

Absolutely no talent needed for this pick and plonk vase.

The truth is I cut these Narcissus for a funeral arrangement last week to try and get them to open but they did not oblige so I get the pleasure of them.

The yellow ones are 'Tahiti' from a J Parkers' mix called UK Grown Double Daffodils. They are a little bright but useful for impact. None of the others in the mix are out yet.

The paler flower is one of many we inherited here so I have no idea what it is.

I did mean to cut some other things and make a proper arrangement. I still might. I've been making the most of the dry weather to get on top of weeding and moving plants around.
I hope everyone is well and able to enjoy their gardens.

  1. Tahiti are certainly striking - what a pretty vase you have used. Did you have an alternative for your funeral arrangement? Are you getting more business now people are isolatng? The ground here is really dry - we have had very little rain in March

    1. The funeral wreath was lovely in blue, white and yellow. Very seasonal. I had some paler narcissus so it was fine. I'm only doing funeral flowers just now as I've decided not to deliver as it's non-essential. Flowers are in short supply for florists just now so we will have to wait and see what happens. Dry already? The surface is dry here and the field next door looks cracked (I saw it when I went to chase my ducks back over) but it is still damp below.

  2. The daffodils are beautiful. You SHOULD be allowed to enjoy your own flowers on occasion, Alison! Funerals have become particularly difficult here as they fall under the "no gatherings of more than 10 people" rule. It's an "interesting" time (not in a good way).

    1. Oh, I do enjoy my flowers, don't worry! Funerals are difficult here too as we have similar restrictions. It's very hard on people who are already grieving and likely to get worse I feel. I will provide flowers as long as I can.

  3. The condition of your soil sounds similar to mine. It has taken such a 'beating' from all the rain over the winter, and here hardly a frost to render the top friable. Daffodils have enjoyed the weather.

    1. Exactly. I'm mulching as I get round to it but have a way to go!

  4. I'm sure your flowers must be providing comfort for some people at a sad time Alison. I like both of your narcissus especially the inherited variety. You struck lucky there.

    1. I hope they do, I enjoy doing them and feeling I'm making a difference. I did strike lucky. We inherited a few things including a fabulous Philadelphus.
