About my garden

Scaled down In a Vase on Monday.

Even though we are in the season of abundance, I have chosen to make a tiny posy this week.
I saw a mini-bouquet on Instagram here and wanted to have a go.

I posted one on Instagram last week and here is another. Quick to make and, of course, you can use all kinds of tiny things.

I used Achillea ptarmica, Linaria, Briza, Catananche, White lavender, Oregano, NIgella heads, Lemon balm - which incidentally is a great foliage plant for vases.

Thank you to Cathy for hosting In a Vase on Monday. Never ceasing to entertain with her inventiveness.

One more thing I found on Instagram, for people with nothing better to do - have a look at this: One Bouquet Per Day - flowers and vintage dresses!

You can see that our babies are barely ducklings any more and are nearly as big as their parents.
The white patch is the wing feathers growing out. They are mostly feathered now with just a little fluff. 6 weeks old.

They have graduated from the washing up bowls and are now allowed in the paddling pool. I've let them out a few times and to hoover up the slugs.

  1. Oooh I like that! It's been a long time since I made a miniature bouquet but you've inspired me now. :) The almost-grown-up-ducklings are so cute!!

    1. Oh good, we all inspire each other. They really are still very cute.

  2. That is gorgeous, Alison (tried that achillea last year with little success)- I love all the elements in it and appreciate the challenge to make it so teeny tiny. Definitely a possible challenge for IAVOM's next anniversary... Will you continue to house the ducks as adults? Do they not trample over your cutting beds?

    1. Oh, that's a shame. Mine is doing very well and once established comes back every year. I won't be keeping all the ducks, they will be looking for new homes soon though I don't yet know which are male or female. They don't really do any damage to the garden except it's best not to water when they are around or they get their bills right into it.

  3. That is very pretty Alison, and small yet with an abundant variety. The catananche with the strong blue then the other white, pink and softer elements, make a charming arrangement. I shall be continuing the small theme for a few weeks I think.

  4. I love the tiny bouquets you and Noelle created. Most of those I made with material from my former tiny garden were that size but, when I got a bigger garden, I seem to have up-sized my flower arrangements at the same time. I took a look at that IG feed but, as I'm not in need of another rabbit hole to fall into, I shan't be adding it to my own feed. Even if they're almost full-grown now, the ducklings remain as cute as can be.

    1. I agree Instagram and other online distractions need a firm hand. I expect I'll go large next week as there is so much to choose from. Heaven.

  5. Lovely idea and result. It is nice to be able to admire the achillea flowers, because is often lost as filler. - Allison

  6. What a pretty little posy! I have tiny vases on my kitchen windowsill that often are used to stuff small pieces into. I might try this idea!
Your ducks have grown so fast. How wonderful that they eat slugs - I need some to eat mine! Did you have to teach them or did they figure it out by themselves?

  7. Yes, I always have a vase for bits and pieces. I collected some slugs when the ducklings were quite young and took them into the run - they disappeared in seconds so I'd say it's instinctive! And very satisfying - perhaps I should feel remorse...
