Snapshot of January In a Vase on Monday

I must start by saying that my colourful vase from last week is still going strong and the Mahonia is making our room smell amazing. Well I think so, Mr C claims not to be able to smell it. The daffodils didn't last long so, Cathy, you have every right to have a smug look on your face!
On the same note the vase from the previous week with Pieris and Heuchera lasted until it was knocked over today. So the small treasures do give long vase life.

This week's vase is a slight cheat as I made it on Thursday. I decided to join in with a  new idea on Instagram #whatsoutnow_january. I only just made it before the end of the month and here is my 'flat lay'.

(Good point Blooms at No 45 - my account is @floralacre I need to work harder at my marketing!)

I'm going to try and do this every month to give a pictorial record of what is flowering. It will become harder of course, as there is more to show. I left out the single rose which still has a flower and the Dianthus to keep it the look seasonal.

Afterwards I popped most of the things in a one of my favourite vases. The Hellebores looked pretty for a short while but I'd cut them too early really. They do better cut when more mature. Everything else is still looking pretty.

My garden has been covered in snow since Friday. We now have rain and a rise in temperatures so the snow is disappearing quickly. I can't say I'm sorry, it just makes everything hard work, I'll be pleased to get back to normal.

Thanks for visiting. Do hop over to Rambling in the Garden where Cathy encourages us to find things to put In a Vase on Monday.

  3. Wow, what a cool idea. Your "flat lay" assembly is wonderful and looks equally beautiful in the vase. Glad your snow is disappearing. It's coming in sideways here and schools are closed.

    1. Thinking of you then. Ours were closed for one day. I hope the children went out and enjoyed it.

  4. A smug look on my face...? Oh, cos my vase lasted a week? I do try not to smug about anything ...;) I love this concept of a flat lay and must give it a go myself one week. I am amazed at how your fabulous flat lay turned into an equally fabulous vase, and the vase itself is beautiful...love the colour and the shape of it. Thanks for sharing - and upwards and owards with your marketing!

    1. No, I meant that my bought flowers didn't last and the things I quickly cut from the garden did! Proving something... Have a go at a flat lay, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

  5. Given the challenges of your climate, I'm surprised to see so much already in bloom! I love the hellebores in particular. I admire the Pieris too but just confirmed that it belongs on the long list of plants that I don't have a chance in heck of growing here.

    1. There is always something flowering. Plants are tough. Looking at some of them now, you'd never know they had been covered in snow two days ago.

  6. Love the colors and the beautiful Hellebores. I used to grow Pieris - one of my favorites. I enjoyed seeing it again.

    1. It is lovely. I've only had it for a year or so but it's already a favourite.

  7. The circle of flowers for your Instagram is lovely, although it is a transitory pleasure it really shows the blooms to advantage. Your Hellebore has beautiful markings.

    1. It's fun to play if you can justify the time but we all need to play sometimes.

  8. What a pretty vase Alison! I suppose it is normal to have so many lovely flowers already in your climate, but it still seems early to me for Vinca.

    1. Vinca is one of those things which seems to flower on and off for most of the year. Our cold snaps don't usually last long enough to kill things off.
