We are back to normal summer weather here - wet and windy. We've had plenty of rain over the last few days and the garden is starting to look more perky instead of tired and brown. There is some green in the grass which we haven't cut for about 2 months.
My vase is a pick and plonk today. Sometimes they are the best.
There is rudbeckia, sunflower 'Prado Red', basil, Amaranthus, Nicotiana 'Lime green' plus bonus pink which came too with the green seeds, Scabious 'Fata Morgana', Daucus which should be purple but this is a rogue. There is also Atriplex and Rosemary which I don't think can be seen.
Has anyone tried saving Daucus seeds? I'll have a go but as there is a rogue white in with the purple they may have crossed. Still all lovely though.

It may be pick and plonk but it doesn't look rushed in anyway - you have such a nice mix of things this week. Is it an annual scabious, or perennial? I can't keep the perennials more than their first year - any idea why? What a nice dark sunflower Prado Red is, pethaps one to try next year. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteIt's an annual. I've only go two new perennials so we'll see if they survive. The best scabious I've had have been from Autumn sowings, they make bigger plants that way. It's very frustrating when things die for no reason you can see.
DeleteI envy you the rain, Alison! It's still months away here. Your "plonked" arrangement is a lovely mix of colors. I long to grow Amaranthus - and Nicotiana. I've tried and failed in growing both but, as the saying goes, you're not really working at it unless you've killed something 3 times, so I think I'll have to have another go with both.
ReplyDeleteYes, I wish I could send you some. I've killed plenty of things but keep on trying to grow them again. Never know when I'm beat. Is it too hot or dry for them with you?

ReplyDeleteWe've had thunderstorms here this week with plenty of rain; the garden looks so much better for it but also means it looks more ready for the autumn clean up. Your vase doesn't look plonked at all and you have so many lovely flowers. I must look at the annual Scabious as I haven't had any success with the perennials.
ReplyDeleteJust a beautiful arrangement today, and one I'd welcome into my own home. Adore your attitude of "pick and plonk". It sure looks elegant to me, and the colors all happily coincide to make a lovely arrangement.
