In a vase on Monday - a spring posy

The spirea foliage I had in my last vase was still looking fresh this morning.  I took the vase outside to add to it and left it on a table for several hours. After that it didn't look so good...

I'd planned to add these Narcissus 'Hawera' but they got a vase of their own. They are so pretty.

I started again with a vase of spring flowers:

In the vase is:
Weigela - a staple of my vases
Bluebells - Hyacinthoides non-scripta
Wallflowers - a lovely peachy one
Vinca major - like it or loathe it, it does have pretty flowers
Ajuga reptans
Nepeta foliage - 'Six hills giant' not yet in flower
Cerinthe major

Finally some more gracefully ageing tulips:

This is after nearly a week and they stayed upright too.

Thanks for your visit.

  1. Very few dafodils here now, only the white Thalia and Petrel - do you have others as well as Hawera? Your blue jug is so abundant - what a joy to have all these blooms and fresh foliage! Thanks for sharing

    1. Yes, still a few. We are in quite an exposed place on the edge of the Mendip Hills. We are at least a week, and probably two, behind my mothers garden in town 10 miles north from here. I've seen lilac and Clematis montana in full flower where ours are still in tight bud. The Hawera were the last daffodils to come out but so worth the wait.

  2. Hawera is certainly a sweet daffodil. Your blue pitcher is overflowing with the abundance of the season and your tulips are beautiful. Our tulips are just starting to color up. What an exciting time in our gardens and vases!

  3. I adore daffodils but have yet to try my hand at growing Hawerta; she looks beautiful though.

    1. It is tiny and so delicate. It has very subtle different shades of yellow - highly recommend!

  4. I love those daffodils but also all the blue flowers you collected from your garden. It's good to see that the tulips are holding on too!

    1. They really did hold on but the petals fell in the end, of course.

  5. I love your cobalt jug, Alison - it compliments the bluebells perfectly. N. 'Hawera' is a favorite of mine, it needs no other accompaniment.

  7. I agree with everyone else - Hawera is a lovely daffodil. And all those flowers in your blue jug make me think spring is moving on ahead rapidly in your area Alison!

  8. What a delightful little daff Hawera is - you've showed it to perfection on its own. The colour of your blue jug is so striking and echoes the bluebells and vinca perfectly. I guess the weigela is the variegated one? Those leaves are huge. I'm thinking of the little leaves I have on my own plant. All three vases are just lovely!

  9. Yes that's right. I should have mentioned it was variegated. I have two shrubs which have just come into leaf and I've just bought a dark leaf one which I hope is as prolific.
